From Aspiring Author to Published Writer: My Journey in Writing A Novel
The road to becoming an author is not always straightforward. It is filled with ups and downs, moments of doubt, and bursts of inspiration that make it all worthwhile. For me, writing was always a dream – but it was not until later in life that I realised it was more than just a dream for me. It was my calling.
The Early Days: A Dream Deferred
For as long as I remember, I have had a passion for writing short stories about my weekends. Growing up, I would write stories about the weekends I had with a birth family friend at the time in notebooks and folders that filled up faster than I could ever read them back while I was there at the weekend. From a small age, I started to learn how to write. After years of discovering I loved to write I picked up the habit. Life got busy. I thought writing was something I would do ‘someday’ – when I had more time, when I had more time on my hands and when I had a better idea of what to write about when I felt ready.
But we never feel ‘ready’ do we?
Taking The Leap: Writing My First Novel
In 2016, after years of thinking about it, I leapt by applying to become a Lifetime Fellow Of RSA for my creative writing and my drive to become an author one day. In 2021, after years of help and writing, I wrote my first-ever book and I self-published it on Amazon as an E-book. My book is called ‘My Journey Through Life – The Real Me!’ The process was difficult, and overwhelming at times, but also incredibly rewarding. The feedback and reviews I got from my readers were beyond what I could have imagined, and it fuelled me to keep going with what I am good at.
Writing a book is not just putting words onto a page. Although words are powerful and meaningful. It is about finding your voice, exploring the depths of your emotions, and sharing pieces of your soul that are within your soul. My first book touched on themes of personal growth, resilience, and overcoming hardship that I could never imagine I would go through in a lifetime. Things that were personal to me, yet universal in their impact.
Writing My Second Novel: A New Chapter Insight
Now, I am deep into writing my second book. From writing my first book to my second it is a completely different journey that I am on but saying that it is just as thrilling and meaningful. The layout of my second book is completely different to my first book. This book has been structured into sections focusing on different types of abuse, for example, neglect, emotional, physical and sexual along with my care experience journey. Each chapter looks at these issues, from a perspective of understanding, healing, and hope.
Writing this novel has pushed and helped me to grow as a writer. The research, the emotions it stirs, the stories I have heard from other people's experiences and my own experience - everything is fed into the writing process. It is not easy work, but it is necessary to make a real difference and impact.
The Power Of Storytelling
For me, storytelling is a tool for healing. Whether you are writing your own story or reading someone else’s, there is power in seeing yourself reflected in the pages. That is what I hope to offer through my books: a sense of connection, a sense of being seen and heard.
My novels are not just stories – they are pieces of a larger conversation about trauma, recovery, and personal empowerment. They are my contribution to a world that needs more honesty, more understanding, and more compassion.
What Is Next For Me?
As I continue writing, I am excited about what my future holds for me. I plan to dive deeper into my writing, share more stories, and hopefully reach even more people who need to hear them. The journey is only beginning from an aspiring author to a published writer is far from over – as I have said it is only the beginning of the journey.
If you ever thought about writing or if you have a story you want to tell. I encourage you to take that first step. It might be hard at first but just keep going. You can do it! Your voice matters trust me it does.
With this book, I have the chance to show everyone what I am really made of. That is why I called my first book THE REAL ME!
The main message of my book is that everyone is unique and important, and we all need to understand that Different can be Great
